Honey Hole

This is the spot where I'm finding my treasures. There's a creek straight ahead below mound. This mound is huge! Probably two acres worth. Went today for 6 hours and only three nice points and several broken ones.

Wow did u dig the hole ? If so that looks like a lot of work

Yes I did. That's a lot of rock to move, but the adrenalin I get when I find a point helps. Lol

Rock.. its really about finding out what depth you stop finding "them" since they can be found on the surface as well.

I'm new here and don't know the history of your hole. Is that a real mound? Burial mound?

It's a midden.. on private property. In layman's terms it's an old trash pile.

Habitation caused the ground to rise due to debri. There can be a few reason for mounds. Culture (the mound builders) or somewhere to dump your trash. Imagine a site with sharp flakes everywhere. I can hear the wife telling me to clean up my shelter already take out the broken pottery and when I get done eating that venison leg split her out a few new awls,,sigh,, Camp life.

Welcome to the site. I have never dug for them before. How do you know what depth they will be at?

Though its hard not to try to dig to bottom , I seem to be finding most closer to top. The mound looks to be at least 10 ft deep. I have found bone (maybe deer) a well as a tooth. If you look in pic with all the points you'll notice a small black object. That's it. I'm really enjoying this forum and look forward to sharing finds with all.

I did sift today the dirt that I separated from the fire rock. Didn't find anything, I guess I don't miss much.

So do you think cause all those rocks were there it might of been a fire pit for cooking? I am trying to think why you picked that certain spot. Nice pictures

Yes it's a fire pit where they cooked for thousands of years. I'm assuming you find points there because it was in the food they cooked. But ice found lots of scrapers and knives as well

Its a mound/midden/Trash pile.... imagine cleaning up your village and putting it in a big pile.
