Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano plans to resign as early as Friday, an administration official told Fox News.
She is planning to take a chancellor position in the university system in California, the source said.
Napolitano, a former Arizona governor, has led the Homeland Security Department since the start of the Obama administration. She is one of the handful of Cabinet members to have stayed with the administration this long.
