next project will be an underwater viewing scope.maybe -4" pvc, 20" long, plexiglass lens with a coupling and vent holes for air .i believe i will add a light ,and have possibly a magnifier that can be removed.(to many years welding don't see like i used to)---plus that way if i let some one else use it-i can take the magnifier out! (can't give em an edge! :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:) but seriously this could be a great tool for those shallow bed rock areas that i love to hunt. i have also seen one made to put on the crevice tool for a hand drege application.it was 2" ---seems a little small to me to be looking thru -3" would be better for that.once i make my 4" model ,will post pics.

Great idea!! I just shelled out $ 99.00 fro a similiar sucker that pumps into a bucket.
Here is my rig for hauling my 3" combo . It is nice when you get your truck stuck 100 yards from the creek like I did Saturday!!

Gday Strickman, Here is an under water viewing scope I made with a 4" PVC pipe. Just silicond some glass up inside the end. Works bloody great

I took a photo through the view finder of a couple of pieces of gold on bed rock that I uncovered. Only the camera focused on the glass in the end of it & not the gold so the gold is a bit blurry but I am sure you can make it out.

looks like shine to me !!!!! thats what i'm making next,i found some led lights that clip on a baseball hat i plan on mounting these in the tube :sign13: might help . glad to hear you chime in ! keep it up...also planning on making a mini highbanker-or should i say low-banker,,, for using my mega sucker . think i might use 4" corugated pipe and a small grizly .that way i can leave it hid with no worries. lets see some more ...

Strickman, just a suggestion- on the scope. Use 4"ABS pipe, the black doesn't reflect light as much as white does (can see target better). Go to a glass shop and have them cut a round lens out of 3/16 or 1/4" glass, will not scratch up like plexiglass. Use a 4" colyer (sp?) rubber coupling w/ hose clamps and help seal w/ silicone. Handle is 4"x4" 3/4" angle bracket hose clamped to tube, slice the end of a broom handle, slide it over and secure. The one I made 25 years ago still works fine.
Don't know if you'll need a magnifying lens, I never did.

Another observation after looking at more posts. The pipe wrap insulation for the seal on the 'sucker'. If you know someone in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade, ask them for some ARMAFLEX insulation for refrig lines. It's a closed cell rubber tube that might seal even better.
Another idea for you. A whipping spoon. Pick up a large army surplus stainless steel spoon. Bend in half, tie a cord to the bent end, then slide a bicycle grip over it and the bent part of the handle. The cord is so you don't forget it somewhere or lose it. I also bend the tip on a big screwdriver at a 90 to dig out cracks. Put a cord on this also.
A mini-sucker? Pick up a good quality battery water fill up bulb (NAPA). Cut the black plastic tube off at about 1/2" before where it goes into bulb. Drill a 3/8" hole down into this tube (from top). This may split the black tube, but no worry. Get a piece of 3/8 copper about 9" long and insert into this hole and hose clamp, leaving about 2-3" up into bulb, silicone (this will keep your heavies in the bulb and not blow out the next time you suck). A hose clamp on the bulb to secure the black part and the red bulb together and yes- another cord. You can also use this to blow out the lighter stuff in cracks.

Got too long winded. On first post you might of though, the glass in the scope might break if hit; never has for me in many years. The screwdriver and sniffer fit into the scope till needed, very compact and easy to carry for sniping.

the abs would reduce glare,i was going to spray paint black.might be more trouble to paint inside.abs might be better.i also found that a large gasket pick works well for cleaning cracks i think i paid $2 for mine. great ideas shep keep em'coming.

I used a folding utility cart and added fron wheels using PVC for the struts. It is a little top heavy but it beats 4 or 5 trips to the truck. I was about to cobble up a similiar rig using all PVC for the frame when I found the cart. It would be better if the dredge set lower betwen the wheels.

i was thinking about getting one of those heavy mesh wire wagons that you can use as a flatbed or add the side railsand for my classifire i use the little black feed trays you get at the farm store drill1/8 inch holesand put little drawer pulls on it for handles and a 3 gallon bucket 5 gallon bucket to heavy between this year and in 07 my elbow and shoulder are about shot so the 3 gallon bucket is better to carry and classify into and i have a buddy in gnome alaska that makes abs plastic sluice boxes 1 full ripple and 1 half rippled for a short sluice or a long tom sluice he has them on ebaymake them out of his garage

kiln, you got lucky on the cart. :icon_thumright: by the end the day those few trips you save really pay off! olepossum,my wife made me buy her one of those big garden wagons a few years ago, paid out the butt for it.now she has only used it once or twice :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: you've got a point!!! i think i might "borrow" (indefinantly) that sucker and put it to good use ::) :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:!!! your buddy that makes the sluices,i saw on another forum where he had some seconds he was selling.do you know how much, and do you like yours? is he a t-net member?(if not he should think about it ) best forum out there !

heres another one .a roll up light weight plastic sluice.out of corugated pipe.you could also make one yourself...the corugated plastic has a memory to make it round.so all you have to do is earase that memory!!!!heat it up real warm (not melting)just enough to make it lose it's memory---then make sure it's heated evenly.put in desired position mabe some thing on top to hold it down.and let cool......then the new memory will be desired shape!!!roll up backwards and off you go !!!!!!!!!!!
