I visited a "New to Our Permit" park on Friday. I thought with the neighboring apartment buildings that were once considered "Hooty Tooty," I might find a few pieces of Silver. This park opened in 1902, and the apartment buildings have some pre-war construction dates. About an hour into the hunt I got a visit from the Park Supervisor. She asked in a pretty demanding tone, "Who do you work for??" I replied, "I work for New York City Transit, Who do you work for??" She told me that she was a Park Supervisor and that I needed permission to dig.
I replied, "Well that should have been your first Question. I explained that this park has been added to the list of parks that we can metal detect and that I have a permit. She walked away. About an hour later, I got a visit from the Parks Enforcement Police. They checked my permit and then went and talked to the Park Supervisor.
There was plenty of clad to be had but I couldn't locate any silver. I did manage to locate two $1 dollar coins within a foot of each other.
The highlight of the hunt was the Batman Watch. Do you think it belonged to the real Batman??

found that same watch listed on amazon as a 'boys time teacher' watch. the hands had the words 'hour' and 'minute' written on them to help teach a kid how to read the watch. sells for about 10 bucks. cool find

Are you sure? ?
It looks like the real deal.

We might get some permissions to hunt but we'll never get EVERYone's blessing.
Can you imagine interrupting a golfer, fisherman, tennis player, jogger ? To ask them to stop & show their papers?

Sad, but true, to most we're just scavengers who take advantage of someone else's bad fortune. BUT!!!

Let one of them just happen across a ring/dollar etc. And see how they react. One will get ya a hundred! ;)

Nice hunt!

I think the watch did indeed belong to the real Batman. All the others are just copies....

Holy Clad Batman, when is the madness going to stop? Glad that you had your permission. You certainly are a great ambassador for the hobby ATW. I bet there are some older coins there.

ATW, You were a cordial gentleman and with your thorough research and permit, you won the day. That park belongs to the people, not that snippy "supervisor." Dig, dig, DIG I say! Maybe pass off a wheat cent to the "supervisor" as a peace offering? BTW, if it came after Adam West, its not a real "batman" item, IMHO...Sub 8-)
