It looks like a bird band to me too. Did you ever look a a birds foot really close? You can pinch their toes together and slip it on and it won't come off unless you pinch those toes together again and slip it off. Birds can't do it on their own however. JIM

Yep, that's what it is. Call you local city biologist and they can tell you what it was for. They'd probably be interested in where you found it too.

Call the Conservation Dept. and turn it over to them. They will trace it for you.
Heck you may be able to look under the Conservation Dept web site for details.

That's a pigeon band from the American Racing Pigeon Union. Bird number 222 born in Aug. 01

Lone Star Federation

http://www.pigeon.org/

They are banded when they are young enough to get the band over the foot bypinching it over the toes.. once the toes expand they stay on 99% of the time..

Sooo, once they are banded and the little bird bands stay on 99% of the time, does that mean this lil bird got eaten? :'( What happened to the bird? :o

The only reason I knew what it was is because I read an article in the newspaper the day before where a guy raises homing pigeons and they showed a picture of the leg bands. He said that every once in a while one doesn't come home and he usually never knows what happened to it. JIM
