Ballantines Beer & Ale is made by Pabst brewing co and Ballantines started production in 1879. The company has changed designs only three times and i am not shure of the exact age...This is a good find

Leaning towards keychain due to the position of the hole. Used several search engines with little luck, I did note one Ballantine "spinner" here.

Also found this website, some good info here but unfortunately, nothing about your item.

The only thing I can tell you about age is it's older now than when you first posted. :D
Cool token bigcy. Wish I could find more. Here in Alabama the most you will find are tax tokens. They are everywhere, almost like zincolns.

Thanks for the links. It appears to be my bottle that was used for many years. They also promoted a lot on the holidays.

Interesting piece you got there BCH. As others I can't find anything on this specific item, but hope some one will be able to found something on it. The Ballantine collectibles seem to fetch pretty good prices and your item obviously rare. Interesting that it says 'Happy Holidays'. Almost like it was way ahead of it's time of being political correct :D

I did find this link with a statement from Ernest Hemmingway:

Didn't he live down your way in Southern Florida? Could it be....

Proto type?

Is that a small ring Ballantine logo on the right side of the ribbon?

Didn't even notice that the logo is made of holly leaves. It does seem to indicate Christmas holiday. Could it have been a gift to distributors or an award of sorts?

Ill have to dig it out of my old finds box. I posted this in 2005. I think its half dollar size. I think I found it at a bus stop in Miami in the 80's, but we have residents from every state here. Yes it is holly leaves. Maybe I can find out what year they used Happy Holiday. Funny there is no "s" at the end.

Here is a Season's Greetings from Ballantine. beer ballantine seasons greetings.jpg

Maybe from a bottle opener? Have seen openers with coins inserted in design (pendant hole was made later).

I'm supprised this token can't be located on the net :icon_scratch:

Found this old special Christmas Ballantine's ale brewed in 1946 and bottled in 1957.

On the site there's mention of a book in the works for Christmas brews.

According to this site the Burton brew was not brewed after 1967. I suspect your token was a gift that was given in connection with the special legendary brew. That would explain the very limited/lacking info on the token.

Thanks for searching Ironspike. I hadnt realized the rarity of this token.

...a description of the vaunted brew:

..."Ballantine Burton Ale pours to a beautiful, bright, ruby red color with no head and no carbonation. I was amazed how bright this beer poured. When mailed to me they were quite hazy, but I cold stored them, the yeast settled to the bottom of the bottle and poured bright. I was also very careful when I poured to make sure the yeast sediment stayed in the bottle. The nose on this beer shocked me. I was expecting lots of oxidation, but I did not get that. Very pronounced aromas of oak, sherry, and alcohol flooded the nose. This beer matured in oak for 20 years, and is one of the reasons this beer has held up so well. The palate was full on the tongue, with flavors of oak, and a surprising amount of estery fruit flavors of plum and apple, paired with a nice back drop of caramel maltiness. Ballantine Burton Ale finished with more oaky and fruity flavors up front, and ended with a peppery, soothing, warming burn that lit a fire in the belly."...

Kinda makes you thirsty. :)

Even though we cannot find another token like it, Im going to call it a Ballantine's Ale Christmas beer token from 1957-1967. I wonder what the value would be to a collector? Maybe Ill send some pics to the Ballantine beer sites. http://www.falstaffbrewing.com/ballantine_ale.htm
