So for the past while we've been working on an old bar doing a lot of renovation work. Today I got on top of the back bar.... People familiar with old bar traditions will know that people used to throw change on top of the back bar..... Well they certainly did at this one! I didn't have much time so I just scooped up a few handfuls and tossed them in a bucket. After about an hour and a half of separating coins from paint chips, filth, and whatever else was blended in I came up with a nice little haul... I guess it could be called a hoard... I don't know what else to call it....
$8.75 in quarters
$2.70 in dimes
$9.30 in nickles
around $10 in pennies... I stopped counting after $5.....
For all that I ended up with one lonely 1942 Wheatie, but the number of 63 and earlier nickles has me thinking there has to be some silver and some older stuff up there. This all came from a roughly 1 foot square area and there is a lot more to go. Also there's a pretty good gap between the top and the wall, so who knows what might be waiting to be found down there? Even though this first bit was nothing spectacular, I'm more than happy with an extra $30.... I think I'll take the shop vac next time and get into all the tight spots and hopefully I'll get some silver to show for it....
