I have read that Odyssey Marine Exploration, of Tampa Florida, believe they found the wreck of HMS Sussex in deep water off Gibraltar, and the latest news I saw was a 2004 report on some divers' website. This 80-gun warship had about 41 million sterling aboard when it went down in 1694 and was taking it to the Duke of Savoy, apparently in an effort by King William III to bribe him into helping with their war against Spain (or somebody!)
Any recent news on this wreck? I think Odyssey wanted to finish their salvage job on the Republic before moving into the Med. sea. Anybody know if the wreck has been been validated as the Sussex?
