🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Hitch of some kind?

Did great on the last I’d, found this at the same barn site this is about 15 inches long and I’m guessing the lever was once attached to the spring and would open the jaws? They don’t seem like they move at all but that could just be the heavy rust, as for the back end it looks like it was fixed to a piece of wood. Was curious if I am on the right track or if someone has a more specific id.

Reminds me of a spring loaded “pot grabber” handle for an old cookstove.
