Hit two places with some stuff

I went for a ride about 30 minutes from my house to an old church with a field behind it. I poked around and didn't get too much. Swinging toward the car I pulled up the old harness bit shown below and that little piece of barbed wire.
Then I went to a place where the railroad used to go through. I had talked a woman who pointed out a house at the end that used to be the depot. Had an appointment but came back to the same place where I spoke to an older man walking his dog. Come to find out this guy used to repair old metal detectors and used to hunt with his wife and his parents!
He told me of an old revival camp nearby and a couple of scout camps I hadn't thought of.
He also advised me that the house at the end was no the depot but was actually the switch operator's shack. 3 tracks ran through this area and the actual depot was at the opposite end of the road.
He told me where some buildings originally stood and had been moved to their current spots. He said there was an old building where everyone used to rollerskate on the 2nd level! One night they heard strange noises, got everyone out of there and then the whole building collapsed! Some of you Connecticut people might know what he's talking about. (A place called Rice City) The rest of the stuff was found in the area of the depot and I plan to go back there today- that's an old Nissan key, a Ford body plate, a 1980 dime and I think the pin is from the Order of the Eastern Star but not sure.

that item on the right looks interesting. keep hitting it and get the trash out, then the good stuff will show up.

You mean I have something? WOW, I had no clue! How funny is that?

WOW!

You have also found the kind of guy that we are all looking for!!!! Go to the local donut shop and pick up a couple warm Cinnamon rolls and go back and see that nice fellow. Bring with you a good detailed map of the area. Realtors generally have access to really good maps and ownership records. And a pencil. Find him and tell him you brought breakfast. Now sit down with your map, your pencil and his memories and knowledge and scribble little notes to your hearts content. If you need a different map, tell him you will bring him one next week!

Do not let this guy get away.

A woman needs a man to fix things.

A woman needs a man to support her.

A woman needs a man to laugh with her and tell her she is special.

A woman needs a man who is a great and passionate lover.

A woman needs a man who knows where to dig the good stuff.

And lastly, a woman needs to make damn sure that none of these guys know each other!

:hello2:
Your post was classic! I should go back and I will bring treats for both him and his dog! Even hubby laughed out loud!
I also want to take a picture of something sticking out of his front yard. He shrugged at and said I dunno, never really look it- It's a 15 foot tall post with the railroad cross at the top, at eye level there is a steel round sign that says Railroad (or just RR I can't remember now) with those half glass marbles. Very cool.
He said he mostly fixed White detectors starting in the 60's but hasnt touched any in a while. I don't know if vintage detectors are of interest but if they are I can ask him if he has any around.
I'll update the post when I get to talk to him again- with a map!

? I don't know if it's a buckle, it doesnt look like it's on a hinge, just bent over. Could be part of an earring or a pin though. It's funny I found that rivet, I just bought a Tom Thumb cast iron rivot press at a yard sale along with a Starret cast iron level.

So among other places, this guy told me about going to Camp Yawgoog which is a scout camp he said he went to with his detector. He said moving the camp site platforms they were replacing got him tons of old coins etc. Well I went down and did the whole permission thing with the ranger. He told he let someone in once and the guy started breaking all the platforms and flipping them over and they had to fix everything. I asked if they were building new ones at the time and he said no but they had to after he left. I felt my heart sink because although I have no proof, it may have been this guy because of his account closely matching the ranger's.
I went to that old revival site too and there were about a thousand signs for no trespassing almost to the point of "will shoot to kill" so I wonder if he may have reaked havoc there too although it could be for a number of reasons. but if he was the culprit at the scout camp... again no proof)
Unlike down south, there are not a lot of people metal detecting around here, to the point where if someone said some chick in a old Jeep was detecting somewhere you can be pretty sure it was me.
I'm a bit sad about this. I said to the Ranger so this guy ruined it for people like me, huh. He said, yeah, pretty much. I keep picturing someone getting permission to hunt, then driving in with a bulldozer.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO,

Now that you have met the nice ranger guy, go back and see him. If everything good was easy, everyone would be doing it. Offer to show him how you dig, this nice tidy little hole, find your target and how you cover up your holes to the point of almost invisible. Coupled with the fact that you always take all the trash away that you have dug. Tell him you are trying to right a wrong by some one else.

Keep us posted.

Bob

I don't think that dog will hunt. There is another guy on here from the area and he tried everything including offering a donation and it was a no-go.
Although it's the littlest state in the union, I am finding that there are plenty of other places, including campsites I've been checking out. I'm thinking that because I was super nice and polite to him, if I am someplace and he hears a call go over about me he may intervene. Just a thought. Wish I could though. I was a girl scout so I'll try my old campsite soon!
