Have you searched the beach and shallow waters near where 9th Street is? Colonial or Spanish Coins were found there about 20 years ago?
no i was north by Atlantic ave near Fort Clinch.

Nice.

Yes that's a 50 cal shell.

There seems to be a lot of those being found lately. They've been out there for 60 years and we are still finding them.

Good luck on the next hunt.

Nice loot DD! I was there on Thursday afternoon. The tide was up to the dunes and the surf was so rough I could not water hunt. I found a little clad in the sand.

those are 19"42"--(SL) st louis armory 50 cal shells from airplane machineguns doing "practice" runs -- they were learning how to "strafe the beaches" in prep for landings overseas during WW2-- dummy cut out plywood soldiers and trucks and such were put on the beach and attacked by planes from nearby airfeilds during 1942 ro 1944 time frame

psst theres a 1810 -1816 era british lumber trade wreck just off main beach(its the marked wreck on the charts) --- and theres another wreck "marked "{as foul area }" on the charts --near the 9th street area --be on the look out for plate shards to help guide you in your hunt-- spanish coins were the common money of the time back then -- Ivan

It is amazing to me how much history I learn through this hobby.

I also found one of these shells in the last week. The nor'easter and winds from it have stirred the beach up good here.

nice finds l need to find a pirate...never mind hubby would be jealous.
