History of SouthWest MI

Hey everybody I am just wondering more about the history of southwest Michigan. I have noticed that a lot of you guys are from southwest MI, and I just wanted to know who or what was here, you know, like settlers, important people, etc.

YIKES! That is a hard one. Many well know people and history. Can you narrow down the area a little more?

Mainly Kalamazoo, but also the few small towns around it (Mattawan, Battle Creek, etc)

In my area of S.W. MI, there came a bunch of Hollanders. My ancesters were among them. I've done some research in your area, Mentha is a town worth researching. Lacota also.

I have several books on the nook reader of local history that were free downloads.
Also the Kalamazoo public library main branch has a lot of historical info.
