I dug this SNY buckle in2017 ,My mapping abilities are better now and I’ve been revisiting sights.Well I overlaid a map of this area and realized (excitedly)that I dug this buckle at Hiram Cronks foundation.Would I be wrong in thinking this ads considerable significants to the find. Oh yes!! Location says a lot with relics. Congratulations

Thats an awesome buckle! But who is Hiram Cronk?

Hiram was the last survivor of the war of 1812 and a civil war survivor. And lived to be over a hundred including the 19th century in its entirety. He was very iconic ,some say he could plow a ten acre plot before breakfast.

That's who I would consider a true Patriot!! Great looking piece of history :icon_thumleft:

Funny you should say that ,him and a small group of 1812 survivors were credited with restoring patriotism to the country during depression times.
For the record I’m speaking from memory so any information anyone would like to correct will not be taken wrong.

I’m not sure which but I believe either his father or his brother fought for the south.

I’d love to find a confederate buckle in NY

A great looking buckle and a bit of a History lesson. Well Done and Thanks for sharing.

I'm just answering these older posts with 'My Opinion', as I have not hit the Civil War forum in almost a month.

That said , being this far South of NY , I have to embarrassing-ly say I don't know who Mr. Cronk was.

If he was a notable figure in history , your plate would be more 'historic' for my lack of better words.

Ill throw this in ...Proving that is where it came from is yr issue.

I LOVE THAT PLATE!!!!!
