Today I went to the local school that originally was built in the mid to late 1800's but was burned down in a fire than rebuilt around 1900. Nothing there, just a bit of junk and 52 cents in clad. Two quarters though. After the school, I went to a house that dates to the late 1800's. No one lives there anymore, and a business recently moved out of it, so after sweeping the small front yard, I found a toy Hot Wheels car, well about 3/4 of a Hot Wheels car. 2 keys, an reproduction of a key from the local hardware store, and a Schlage SC1 key. Its meant to open multiple tumbler locks, thats about all I got with my research. This brings my total key collection to 3. Only other find in the front yard was a nickel from the 1990's. Continued to the side yard, got a door nob and square panel lock. Then the man who owned the house, and actually lived there as a child drove up while I was there, and started talking to me about all of the history, which was really incredible to hear all of that, and he took me in the house and showed me all around it. Then I went to the back yard, and a man came up to me, and was really interested in what I was finding, and stayed with me and helped me dig a few things. He is a groundskeeper at the local college. He said he has a metal detector too, and shared a few of his top sites with me, so a potential hunting partner there! I also think I found the dumping ground for all of the trash for the house, as a spot of ground I found is littered with pottery and glass. The man also told me where the outhouse was, so going there tomorrow! (I searched part of the area he remembered it being, but had already been out for about 4 hours, and needed to head home. I found about $1.00 in clad total, a bunch of random bits of metal, and what I believe to be a 1960's AVON lipstick metal stick, a handmade nail, and a slug (meant to be a quarter for vending machines). Overall, not bad, especially with finding a potential hunting partner and learning so much history from a man who lived through it!
