So I spend 6 hours last Saturday hunting a property with the own of the nearly 20 acre lot near several Gold mines and a Gold Rush era town. Metal Detecting results, a dozen square nails, old rusted pots, pot belly stove parts. So I pull out my Garrett Ground hog and tune if for Gold. Ziltch. Tried panning the creek, only one flake, Me. A whole lot of work with really crappy results. Well, there is a lot more land to hunt, hopefully subsequent hunts will be better. /whinning off

Hang in there you'll hit the good stuff soon, just keep swinging!! HH!!

Yeah, most of us on the forum have found more than our fair share of squat.

20 acres is a lot of ground to cover. Sounds like you're in the right neighborhood and you're digging the iron. Something good will come up sooner or later..

I am going to say hang in there in good spirit because I have done the same thing and well sometimes it is just not there but you still have to prove it to yourself. Hopefully it holding some nice treasure.

I feel your pain. I had to wait over a year and 1/2 to detect on one the oldest intact plantation properties in the heart of civil war territory. Spent about 5 hours out there and did not really find a thing, but it was a lot of ground to cover. You'll find the sweet spot eventually.

I think Scotty on the Star Ship Enterprise once beamed 'squat' over to the Clingon ship just before it entered hipper drive and there was a massive brown out in another galaxy so be careful of that stuff. Just continue to have fun with it and when you least expect it some of that golden metal will show up in your pan/sluice/goldtrap/etc. After all, we are in this for the fun of it right! The adventure and being outside is what it is about right! Or am I confused, I get confused so easy.....................63bkpr

I have a feeling the 7th hour would've produced results.

This sounds just like me about a month ago,I met this older guy who told me that during WW2 he used a metal detector to find mines,he told me that he has some land and that I could come out I MD on his land.So I met up with him and he told me that back in the late 1800's there was a small 2 day battle between some settlers and some Indians on his property. All he wanted was to see anything I dig up.Well after about 3 hours all I had was SQUAT,about 5 old beer cans,a couple of buttons and about 3 spoons.Found out later I dug on the wrong side of his property,he told me to come back and search again:)

Well that's the way it goes sometimes! At least you had the chance to go, I'm sure there are a lot of people that would have loved that. I know I would have no matter what you find.

Man I've found a lot of that squat stuff. My ever lovin' wife wants me to link all the pull tabs and paint them gold. Haven't done it yet though, probably because then it would be jewelery instead of squat. But I've found other squat also. Photos are attached to this post, note the quantity of squat.

The last time I had a totally planned hunt I had three areas of a field all figured out. The barn, the outhouse and the main abode. After 5 hours searching all three, I got, as you so eloquently put it, squat! I said, out loud, OK! Lord! I give up! You take me where YOU want me to go. The VERY NEXT hit, a very nice indian head cent. I said, out loud again, Thank you and then I winked at the sky and said, Good one! LOL

It's NEVER where we think it is, it's where we find it. :)

Keep at it.

HH!

Keep hunting that's what it's all about. The challenge of the hunt and he perseverance to keep on looking!!

Been there.....ok a few times...or more.....Keep digging your luck will change! HH

Nope, not confused. the adventure is what gets me out the door. The finding drives makes that door difficult to resist for the next 100 hunts.

Speak of IH, I really need an Indian Head find. In fact I need everything Pre-1917, and most everything after that as well. I'll keep hunting, cuz I'm no quitter. It's gonna take a long time to cover that nearly 20 acre property.
