Hipmount kit for White's DFX

Aloha to all on in the forum. I recently got the hipmount kit for my White's DFX. It was an easy install and I feel it will help take the load off my swinging arm. I now will carry the display and control box arm on a belt strapped to my waist. I was able to walk around a bit last night with it on. It felt good but I know I need to go out in the field to really find out. I was wondering if other detectorists here in the forum use this type of hipmounting device to make using their detectors easier to wield around. I would also like to hear from others that tried this way of carrying their detectors and didn't like the feel of it.

It's a pretty strange setup...I'm left-handed and it can only be attached on the left side so I haven't tried it. I guess you could modify it somehow to use it on the right. Let us know how the tests go.

Could you post a picture? What's in the kit? Why only on the right? I'd like to modify my MXT because of a bad shoulder. Rob

Picture the upper rod with the control box and display hanging off your belt. They give you a new upper rod with no control box and no display that you actually swing the detector with. So, when you find a target you have to use the trigger on the upper assembly (for DFX/XLT) on your belt to pinpoint. It works, but the upper assembly is a pretty large item to have attached to your belt. The cabling is simple...you just route the coil cable to the upper assembly on your belt...they give you an extension cable.

The item in the pic that looks like a control box is actually a piece that fits onto the control box that allows a belt to be attached...

Re: Hipmount kit for White's DFX

Ok, I found the kit myself but thanks. I've got an MXT and a bad elbow so I've been checking on the details. On the link below is a mod that Steve did on his MXT. All that was needed is the heavy duty extension cable from Whites. $29.00 The mod would work exactly the same for the DFX and XLT. This would solve the problem for left handers and get the box higher for shallow wading.

A guy named Gary sent me some pictures of his mod that he did using Steve's post. Rob

I got a book from the library written by Jimmy Sierra. The book was about the 6000 series and earlier models. On the cover he is standing in a ghost town and has a 6000 series hip mount but the meter is in the original position on the swing arm not on the box. Now that is the cable I want. Rob

Yes, it may feel strange with the control arm strapped to your waist but I've heard of others that get a stiff belt and carry the unit on their shoulder or across their chest. I like it on my side and I still can move the control arm to where I would feel comfortable. Like I say though I still need to field test it and see if I really like it.

Re: Hipmount kit for White's DFX

I was able to field test the hipmount kit today and I find it comfortable to use. I went to a beach park and had no problems with strapping it on, hooking it up, and swinging the coil control arm. My range of movement is quite good and I can move the control box/display arm to where it is most comfortable to use when swinging, pinpointing, or digging. This hipmount is is a keeper.
