Hate to disagree but the hole looks too small to accommodate a door knob. Door bell or buzzer plate perhaps.

There's a #4 between the large hole and the small one on the left. Any other numbers or script? Breezie

looks like part or all of a plate for a drawer lock

I don't think it is a door knob plate because there is no way to secure it to the door. All door knob plates have a screw hole in each corner to fasten it to the door. Breezie

possibly a push button light switch plate, the holes are in the wrong spot for a door plate

A push button light switch would be in the same category as a door plate, it would still have to have a hole in each corner to attach it to the wall. Maybe it was used lying flat on top of another item and slid into channels on each side. There had to be some way of attachment. It could have fit atop of a wooden box and held into place by side channels. I still think the #4 is interesting and a 'clue.' ;D Breezie

my pic of the triple gang doesnt have corner holes, the plates are attatched to the switch itself just like the modern ones. not saying thats what it is lol

Hey Allan, I hope you had a nice Christmas. :) Yes, I've seen several pics of those that did not have corner holes, but all that didn't have holes, had either a thick border or either the edges were beveled. Garabaldi's plate is totally flat and thin.

Could it be part of a Clock with the large hole being where the hands go and the 2 smaller holes being where you wind the clock. Breezie

The end that is curved does not look like it was broken off. Seems like the curve had been cut in that shape purposely, which would make me think it has something to do with woodwork such as a door lock. What about the type of lock system that has a round shaft that just slides to secure the door or window in place? :icon_scratch:

Bear this in mind;
It was larger (I believe), & was later cut after use, to either use the top piece for something else, or they cut it to take it off/apart
