found this today..anyone know what the highland club is and what the badge is for? Thanks.

Google popped these results back. The first is from a numismatics site:

http://www.numismatics.org/cgi-bin/showobj?accnum=1916.57.5

This is from the MIT archives, apparently from the MIT publication "The Tech":

http://www-tech.mit.edu/archives/VOL_023/TECH_V023_S0412_P003.txt
"...One of the best concerts of the season was
given last Friday evening at the Highland Club,
in West Roxbury. After the concert the fel-
lows gathered around, and sang more songs at
the supper given by the men of the Highland
Club. Linus Faunce, formerly of Tech, was
present, and seemed pleased to see Tech men
again."

Here is an interesting bit of info, indicating that the Higland Club was probably used as a general meeting hall and concert hall for MIT and the local community:

Here's a blurb from the Lowell Daily Sun, January 20, 1894. The only problem is that to read the whole archive you need to subscribe:

http://www.newspaperarchive.com/newspapers1/na0003/51858/541636.html
"The only place where the scicntitic game is played is at the Highland club"

Most likely a membership watch fob. 1888 would be the club's founding date, not the date of issue of the fob.
