I tried out my Keene 2.5" highbanker combo this past weekend. We ran six 5 gallon buckets through it and got about 0.3g of gold.(would have stayed longer but it was raining like a mofo) I just wanted to know how everyone else sets theirs up, because I was told you have to dig a settling pond if you highbank in California. From my experience it would have to be a good-sized pond to help the muddy water settle out.
I contacted the CDFG and they told me highbanking was illegal. Has anyone else been told this :dontknow:

The person you talked to doesn't know the difference between highbanking and hydraulicking. I don't know about California, but I get that all the time up here in Oregon. Highbanking is fine and you don't need a settling pond here but down in Cali, I wouldn't be surprised.

Power sluicing is the highly technical term you need to remember. Highbanking is at best a gray area. The rule states your not allowed to dig in to banks or expand the existing stream bed which seems to be the biggest confusion. What I do for settling pond is run the "power sluice" for a few minutes low idle and it creates a slot of erosion the I put up a little berm to give water a chance to settle. Good luck and good gold.

CDFG=dept of misinformation. By simply making 2 small ponds you'll get MUCH better results. Highbanking is absolutely legal in calif--riparian destruction is not. Do not introduce gravels from the bank into the stream/river. Keep mud down with a dual catch basin and you'll not have a problem. There is NO permit /POI/NOI. The stinkn forest circus is currently TRYING TO CHANGE THRU ILLEGAL CODIFICATION the very same rules and rights guaranteed to you thru the 1872 mining laws and further codified thru the Nixon administration. Go online and down load your rights-keep them with you-the CFR's are there for your protection!!Tons a au 2 u2 -John :icon_sunny:
