High School Update I found the key

I have been trying to get permission to hunt a local high school for about 2 mos, with little success. I have talked to the principal I think 3 times and he has called and talked to me a couple but always has something going on or has to ask someone else. Last day of school was today. I have been out hunting this house and come back and listen to my calls and the principal is on telling me he can't say yes or no but If I come down it's public property and would I please come quickly he has lost an important key. Any way I post my other finds and relaxed for a couple of hours and then went down to hunt, I was really too tired but I thought I can find it. He doesn't know exactly where he lost it but he thinks its out front, well thats a pretty big area. I hunted for two hours and decides I was going to dig targets too not just hunt for his key. This is what I found, all clad.
$2.17. The little nut I believe is off a lock, it has numbers all the way around., also found a metal button. All total I had a very good but exhausting day. Its going to take me a few to recoup. HH

Principal calls me Monday 8:00 AM to say sorry he didn't get my msg from Friday until just now. He gives me further Instr. as to where he believes it fell. I said I was going away for a couple days and I would hit it again when I got back. I asked what this key looked like and he said oh it's just an allen wrench with a hole in it. I spoke up and said oh I didn't think that was a key but I found that and it is sitting on the cement slab by the sign. He said he would go see if it was the right key and call me back. He called back and I found it, didn't know I found it but I did. (Iv'e never heard an allen wrench refered to as a key)and I'm happy and he was delighted. End of story.

Make it a Point to Concentrate on the Area as often as Possable,
and Find that Key.

i dont usually ask if its a public school. i go when school is out and i have never had a problem. a private school i would feel funny about hunting without permission. just keep going back even after you find the key and give it to him when you are through! :P.....just kidding good luck in finding it.

Congrats on the clad and hopefully you will find that key. But since it's a public school, you can just search it after school is out. I've never had any problems searching public schools either. I would never go to a private school unless I received persmission first.

I agree...I pay alot of taxes on those schools ...so I never ask permission to hunt them...but I wont dig in the manuicured lawn part. Way to go on your finds and hope you find that key! What school was it ,because last week I found three keys on school property!

with Gypsy on that one -- haven't ever asked to hunt a public school -- I don't go in there with a hand shovel, but around here I am not sure they would even notice -- anyhow nice finds I am sure you will be back out soon. 8)

You're lucky if you can hunt schools, the one's around here are fenced, gated, and locked up tight!

As long as you don't go there when there are kids there you should be all right. Go early on a Sunday morning before church.

thanks all for the replys, I will try and go back on Wed. The reason I wanted to get permission was that the town cops patol all the time there because of past break ins and I didn't want anyone to think I was sneaking around the place.

Gypsy the school is in VT but you can send me the keys and I'll ask the principal if any will work. LOL

Way to go Mchamby! Congrats on making the principal happy! Doesn't hurt to have a contact at the school. Although, I agree with Gypsy... we pay enough in taxes. keep up the good work!
