Welcome, practice and research are the keys to success in the hobby. I'd recommend starting out by sprinkling coins in your yard and practice running the coil and pinpoint function over them. Then move to a nearby tot lot or park and practice digging the coin targets. You can open up your discrimination a bit and try to dig some gold/foil.
