Hi all!

Well my sons (ages 4 and 5) convinced me to buy a metal detector after watching the popular metal detecting tv shows. Now we are all hooked!! We've only been searching for a couple weeks and haven't found anything amazing, just newer coins totaling about 15 cents, and lots of garbage. I'm a bit of an environmentalist at heart so even though we haven't found much, we are happy to know that we've cleaned up the parks a bit.

I've been doing research and feeling a bit disheartened to learn that my area has some amazing MD'ers - glad for them but disheartened because I fear there's not much left to find. My boys are really into it though so we're just going to keep trying and hope to find something they missed. My boys are very young but definitely interested in relics. We look at old plat maps all the time and I show them where all the old hotels and railroads were in our small town. They love it!

We have a Bounty Hunter Lonestar and are having fun learning how to use it. We are looking forward to spring when they tear up the roads around here, maybe then we can find something cool!! Heck maybe we'll get really good and buy a fancy machine one day!

Nice to "meet" you all!

Welcome RSDiggs.
Plenty left to dig!Just a matter of luck or doing homework.
Hide them holes after digging, and hope to see you out there.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!!
We have been very careful to take care of our holes properly. We practiced in the yard first, to make sure we were filling them right. We put the excess dirt on a frisbee as we dig, then fill it back it.

I just learned where an old hotel stood, in my town. Built in the 1870s, it was torn down in the 20s and the current building was built, a mill store. At some point the parking lot was paved. I am keeping my eye on that, because the lots in bad shape and I want to be there as soon as they tear it up!!

Welcome to TNet! It's great when you can share the hobby with your children. Look for old houses in your area and tell the owners you are looking for a place to take your small children metal detecting. Most senior citizens love to have kids come by and look in their yards.
