Ok it's my second or third time out using my first ever metal detector. Got the Tesoro Silver U-Max a few days ago. I live in Boise Idaho, and decided to go up Bogus Basin. I hiked way up a steep really steep place where about two years ago I found the remains of a cast iron bed, so some sort of house used to be their back in the late 1800's or early 1900's. This is what I found-see photos, steep between old boulders down the hill. Weight about 45lbs. At first I thought "great; more iron no, coins or really anything cool. I kept digging. I thought it was a cast iron stove, but after looking at it I think it's a sewing machine? I also dug up on the hill, a cast iron foot-mold or something, so I put the two together? Woman's work back then,? while the minor is out mining? Who knows, but I dragged it home. Anybody want to take a guess of what it is, and it's age? Pretty cool. Marvin in Idaho. Pray for ring :notworthy:s and silver, I am. The only problem now is I'm pretty sure I'm hooked! Crap!

I got so caught up with the find I forgot to scan the hole, or look deeper, I just scaned the surrounding area. Going Back.

That is sweet! I lived in SE Idaho for 3 years but didn't have a machine at the time. Wish I had of though. Good luck finding the rest of it!

Cool find! Nice to see someone else from the treasure valley on here. I'm further west though.

That can be a very cool yard decoration. I have drug lots of rusty stuff home. That is in much better shape then the stuff you get down south after 100 years in the brush. :icon_thumright:

Welcome to T-net and congrats on the neat finds.
I use the same machine you have and LOVE it! It will find everything for you.

Great find! The old sewing machines had two end support pieces like the one you've found, and were powered by the woman's feet pushing rhythmically on the treadle, a flat metal piece that was hung underneath the machine. You can see lots of them by clicking on Google images for "treadle sewing machine". Long ago I bought two such machines at a thrift store just because I like their looks; sold them later. Andi
