HI everyone. I did some metal detecting in the late 60's and early 70's.... i never found much of value. I still have my old Whites Coinmaster but I am saving up to buy a new detector. I remember buying $7 worth of batteries and spending all day out in the fields only to have gained 17 cents, but wow what fun that was. I have read the improved pick up power of the new machines and the filtering capabilities would make this a good choice<plus the batteries have changed to 9 volt and much cheaper I cant wait to get back out. Will a detector operate reasonably well in frozen ground? i located a great looking spot but didnt know if i should wait for the ground to unfreeze or get on it now.

Welcome from Holmes County.

It's too hard to dig frozen ground. If you stick to the woods, leaf litter and the tree canopy usually keeps the ground from freezing.

Better to go to the Library, local history section, and research some new sites, then when it's warm you are ready to go. Good Luck, post some pics.
