To be exact, you said it was found in approx. 4 in. of the soil in yer flower bed outside of yer home? And not some sort of vast wilderness environment? My guess and wager would be
very worn, weathered, and very rusted, small broken piece of man-made scrap iron. Photo #790 led me to this best guess.
But there are labs all over that can, fer a small fee, can do a non-invasive "XRF" analysis. Good luck!
