Hi to everyone on TreasureNet. I want to start looking for coins and gold in Maryland. I recently found my coin collection in storage from when I was a kid, and that got me really interested in pursuing this hobby again. I have never used a metal detector, and I don't really know how to get started. I will probably start on my own property as it was a farm at one point and my back yard along with my neighbor's was part of a debris/refuse dump. We are always finding old glass and pottery just below the surface. Once I am familiar with using the metal detector, I am curious as to how to find good places to look for coins. I know people in this area spend a lot of time searching the many civil war battlefields for relics, but I am wondering if that is the best place to look for coins. I have been looking at this site for a bit now, and people seem to have success on riverbanks. How do I locate a potentially good spot? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

first check the laws and get a metal detector that suits your budget and learn how to use it. they are not hard to use

You didn't mention your state - but you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome aboard Chris and good luck!
