I was gonna wait for PBK... but... I have to imagine this dates at the same time period:

"The picture shows a front and back view of this 1930s Boy Chief of Police Comic Strip
Character Premium Brass Badge. This badge is not dated but is believed to be associated
with a 1930s newspaper comic strip. It may have also been part of a radio premium
promotion as well. The badge is shield shaped with an eagle, banner, stars, and other
designs. It is marked as follows:
DEPT. OF POLICE
CHIEF
BOY DETECTIVE
12468

The brass badge measures about 1-9/16'' x 1-9/16''. It is in good condition with
wear from use as pictured".

Can't seem to find a listing for this particular badge, but did find several very similar ones in old toys & premiums auction catalogs (Hake's Americana, et al.). All were attributed as c. 1930's, and my guess, like MJ's, is that yours is from the same period. Some were supposedly given away by firemen at schools, fairs, etc.; others by insurance companies.

Way to go guys....I am going to have to agree with what you have found! Great Research!!! Even the pin mark on the back where they attached it to the badge looks to be the same.

Thanks a lot guys!
