The Dirty Shire
Detector(s) used
Whites DFX, and Whites IDX Pro
Hey guys
Went out to this 1780's house i got permission to do today. Was detecting for about a hr when i got a dime/quarter hit. Dug down and i pulled out a large copper. The only problem is i have no idea what it is. I have included some pics in hopes someone can id it. All i can make out is there looks to the wreath thats around the sides of the American Large Cent. The oly problem is the leaves dont look like they are in the right area to be a lareg cent. Also i have dug over 15 LC and i have always been able to see atleast something that makes it id able. This thing has nothing. The other side is completely destroyed with no objects visible. I was aboe to see one letter or number directly arcoss and to the left of the leaves. Looks to be either a T, L, or 7 im not sure . Sorry fo the pic quality. The 2 pics be for the last are of the letter or number accross from the leaves. Any info or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Also the last pic is the coin ontop of a Half Dollar ijust so you can see its size and mis shape
Just my observation, but the coin looks very crueduly made, judging by its misshape, and the fact that it is different thickness all around the rim
Keith

WHAT DID IT READ ON THE CLASSIC I.D. ( 10 CENT OR QUARTER )

It was fluxuating between dime and quarter on my IDX Pro. When i got it out of the hole it stayed on dime. Now that you mention it this is also strang b/c every large copper i ever dug came up either quarter or half on the id. Dont know if this means anything, but that is interesting.

ON A WHITES MACHINE, IF IT READS DIME, IT IS MOST LIKELY A DRAPED BUST OR A CLASSIC HEAD. CORNET CENTS OR THE MATRON HEAD READ QUARTER. I DON`T THINK ITS COLONIAL BECAUSE IT LOOKS AS IF IT HAS A REATH ON THE BACK...............PACO

Here is how the wreath lines up for reference
This makes it a classic, matron, or braided hair, I would say classic based on what Paco is saying about how it comes up on the detector.
