Hey guys, I'm an American Expat that's been living in the UAE for 16 years now. I've always loved hunting for treasure whether its gold panning, metal detecting, coin roll hunting, or just going through junk looking for that item that makes it all worth it. My grandmother got me started while I was working estate sales with her and helping her turn antiques she finds at garage sales, estate sales, and wherever they come from for a profit on ebay. Somehow that turned into coin collecting where I would make a couple trips to the bank a day to change my coin rolls for new ones haha. When I went to the coin store I found some gold panning equipment and then started doing that, and eventually decided metal detecting is my technique of choice.
Living in the UAE has been interesting and whenever I mention metal detecting to anyone they always assume I mean for jewelry at the beach but I actually prefer finding items with history, and have spent most of my time hunting older areas. This area has a really interesting unique past and there's a ton of interesting finds to be had. I'd love to metal detect over in Oman to the east where they have countless old historical areas but they are very sensitive about it and have made it almost completely illegal without specific government permission while giving up anything they decide they want. I've been lurking this forum for a while and decided it was time to finally join, and I hope to learn as much as possible, while gloating my finds in a public place
