Welcome from Alabama and happy hunting to you. Be sure to share your cool finds as well as the things that you learn.

Stokesdale was an old stomping ground of mine in the 70's. Lot's of history there, but last time I went through, Greensboro was fixing to trespass! Urban growth!

Keep digging!

Hey Deepseeker! Do you remember an Old abandoned house that was once a post office/general store from 1800s (when Stokesdale 1st became a town known then as "green pond") It was located on what is now Ellisboro rd and for the 1st 20,30 years it was the ONLY general store in town until around turn of century when they started up the Main Street--any way it had sat there abandoned for years until a couple of years ago vandels caught it on fire and it burnt down but the rock foundation still stands there and its completely overgrown but that is my next "dream hunt" location...finding out who now owns the property has been a little frusterating though! Thank You for posting and Scott and I would be happy to go MDing if your ever back this way!:occasion18:

Hi Beth, you certainly know more of the local history than I remember.

I went to Rock Tech for about 4 years '71-75, couldn't make my mind up what I wanted to be when I grew up. Us "long hairs" would ride the backroads in between classes "studying" for our next tests :)

I forget where it was exactly (I must have studied too hard), but between Wentworth and Stokesdale there was an abandoned antibellum mansion we used to explore. It may be long gone now, but you could ask around and see if anyone remembers it.

I will! Oh and my Dad was a director and ptime coach for Rockingham Tech during the years You were there, too, his name was Bill Meadors... Ill let you know what I find out about the mansion!!!

I remember the name, but I have some blank spots in my brain now. I studied too much in my youth :(

Actually, I still have the '74 Yearbook at the farm (near Stuart, VA), and I'll look him up.
