Hey guys and gals.

I have missed Tnet alot since being gone. I am an avid hunter so come October, that is pretty much all I do. Upon coming home, I had several boxes waiting for me since I wasnt around to pick up my orders from the week before. I had a couple decent boxes finally... Out of 13 boxes the total take was 5-90% (all Kens), and 25-40%. Thank god for one box that had 12 of those 40%'ers in it. Otherwise it would be dismal.

I have a question hopefully someone here can answer. I am wondering about old Silver Certs. 1's and 5's... I know a picture says it all, but I am just wondering, in decent condition, (worn, and circulated, but good enough that it doesnt make you cringe when looking at it)... Are these silver certs usually worth more than face? Is there a strong collectors market? I am thinking about buying some from a seller on my local classifieds. Its like 87 face value for $130. Any thoughts?

Happy hunting all.

Chris.

Nice scores!

I have dabbled in paper money a little. Depends on the dates and if they are star notes. If it's a beat up 1950s silver cert, not much more than face to be honest, but the older series are worth a little more, and I'd buy all the star notes you can get at that price. I think the fives are a little tougher and more valuable than the singles. So..... if they are all 1950s era non star notes, probably not worth much. But, if there are a few star notes and older ones, might be worth it. Also, condition is a big factor. Paper money guys won't pay much of a premium for beat up, folded, creased, stained, torn notes unless they are really rare. BTW: check for a blue star by the serial numbers, these are always worth a premium.

Hope it helps a little.

As said depends on the condition 87 face for 130 doesnt sound bad The $5 notes are nice and usually on the low end go for $10 minimum. If there in generally decent shape Id buy them. You can always make your money back putting them on cl. If you get them post them on here and we will give you an idea of value

Check your inbox for PMs from me. Also, one of my favorite tellers saved me 2 $1 Silver Certs once. Probably beat up enough to erode any extra value, but for $2, I'll keep them just to have them.

I found one really sweet silver cert, a '35 $1...it had names written all over it on the back and the word "short snorter" at the top. After doing a little research I found out that it was used during WWII by a soldier. They would get people that they met in the bars to sign their short snorter, and the next time that they met, if one of them couldn't produce the short snorter that the other had signed, they had to buy a round. Mine has the name of the pilot who owned it also with a little info about himself. I was pretty stoked when I found out about it, cool little piece of history.
