HEX NUT'S

I got a bronze statue today at a yard sale. I am trying to date it but without a camera it is tough to show you guys what it looks like. I found a photo on line I will show you it is the exact same one. My question is the bottom of the base has a Hex nut. Does anyone know when we first started using hex nuts? I have a friend who swears we didnt start using them until the 50's. I am dying to know if this statue is worth the 2 dollars I spent on it.

I know that hex nuts were used in the 1800's. Tony

Re: HEX NUT'S

If it's a bronze by one the Moreau family... date it late 1800s early 1900s.

I have phone parts from the 20s and 30s loaded with tiny hex nuts...

maybe AUGUSTE MOREAU (French, 1834-1917)

Is it really bronze? does it show any patina?

You know they were making cars before 1950 that were put together with hex nuts and bolts.

It was def bronze. I took it to a local antique dealer and he offered me 500.00$ for it. He was thinking it was from the 30's. Thank you for your help on this. I guess my investment paid off. I also picked up a marble pedestal and plaster bust from this sale. I paid 2 dollars for that also. I was offered an additional 500 for that. Needless to say....I will be purchasing my first Explorer with this money sometime this week.

Re: HEX NUT'S

bought this 2 Tuesdays ago for $5.00 at an estate sale. i figured I'd make 20 - 30 bucks reselling it.

put it on craigslist on the west coast as make offer.

sold it to a collector on the east coast the following Monday for $500.00

the man I'm sure would have gone higher but he seemed like a good guy and it was a win win

situation for the both of us. neither of us had any complaints. :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

Re: HEX NUT'S

Sweet deal. The lady I got the antiques from paid me a huge amount of money yesterday for a job I offered to do for much less. Thanks to her kindness I was able to purchase my new used Explorer SE today with a 14" and a 10" coil for 900 dollars. There was (and I counted) 0 scratches on the bottom of the slimline and 13 tiny hairline scratches on the bottom of the 14"er. The guy told me he just couldnt get used to the sound difference over his DFX. I love this machine!!

Thats the best part. I did point it out and she insisted that "to her" the job was worth what she paid me. She is a very sweet old lady. She kept telling me I "made her day" by allowing her to give me the antiques.
