I found this at a site with an existing building from 1760. The site is a place where the British and Hessians stayed for one night in 1778.
Here are details
• 3/4 of an inch long
• 1/2 inch wide
• Copper alloy material with what look like rope circles on the perimeter.
• Has marks on the back that make me think it was a pin or brooch and not a cufflink
• The yellow stripe is painted on the green stone
• Green and yellow were the colors of the Hessians.

Does anyone know what this is or can verify that it is something the Hessians would have worn?
Does anyone know a source to find out more about the Hessians?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm thinking it's either a necktie or an ascot pin Mike. :icon_scratch:
If you could clean up the back, you'll see where the attachment pin was soldered.

Or the top of a hat pin from the late 19th C.

The piece is tiny. I can't imagine a soldier of any era wearing it in the field.

Looks like an 18th C Cuff-link button to me.

Thanks Dave. I think you may be right. I appreciate the photo too. That gives me more to search for.

Well done.

I'm changing my mind, as it has 1 solder point, I think maybe a hat pin?
