Here's what was found today
I went to the old homesite this afternoon. I found a few things, and a friend found the back of a pocketwatch. Lots of iron that I didn't take pics of. The place sure was full of trash signals. Iron mostly. It was hard to detect there because of all the undergrowth and vines, etc... I plan to go back with a push mower and clear the ground a bit (its in the woods).
The medal I found is hard to read, but it is copper, and on one side shows men on horses. I think at least one of them has a rifle in hand, so they may be calvary men? The other side says "CHILDRENS FOVNDERS ROLL COMMEMORATING THE HEROISM OF THE PEOPLE OF THE CONFEDERACY"
In the word FOVNDERS, the V seems like it should be a U, but it is undoubtedly a V. No date that I can see. I found it at about 8" I guess, and it was beneath a large root. I had to dig on both sides of the root, and scoop this out from underneath the root.
My friend also detected a pistol. Real thing, with clip in it and a bullet in the chamber!!!! The slide was missing, so it couldn't have fired, but still. It was a .25 cal saturday nite special-type gun. Probably thrown there from the road. I think it was a cheapo jennings.
We had fun, and I think it is going to be a good site.
Hopefully I can post these pics right.
One of the 12 ga shells says "Western Field No 12" and the other says "Federal Monark NO 12". The watch back says nothing. It is copper with silver plate as far as I can tell.
