RAD - I think in this case means "radiator"

I agree. Thermostat bushing for a radiator hose.

Second one looks like a guard that would have fit over or around something slightly curved.

The first item is a piece of an automotive thermostat. It's the piece that holds the big spring in place (see picture). It's labeled 'TO RAD' so it doesn't get installed the wrong way, which could be detrimental to the well being of your car's engine.
