Here's a lesson for everyone that metal detects found cache?

I buried a cache of tokens ,coins and silver rings on Jan 5th of this year at a park in Littleton Colorado. No one has called me finding this cache so I went out tonight and found it!?

To my surprise some one found it!~!!!! but here's the catch they didn't dig it up? There are 11 strikes with a probe in the container but they thought it was a pop can so they didn't dig it up!!!!

There is a lesson to be learned here DIG EVERYTHING!!! YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS THERE ELSE YOU DIG!

I will bury another one in the near future I will let everyone know where to look!

Seems to me they spent more time with the probe than what it would have taken to just dig it !

That's funny! Cherry picking has it time and place, but you'll never know what you have until you dig it up!

Great story!

another thought
11 probe strikes, maybe a few people found it and each probed it a few times.

I remember back when you hid that cache,,, funny how no one had found it in almost a year...
I have been wanting to plant a cache myself, but have yet to do so... Maybe sometime this winter I'll find a nice little spot for it...
Good luck & Happy hunting~

If there's not too much trash I will try to dig everything.? I have a bad back and now a knee is acting up so I have a hard time getting down to dig.? I went over a beach last week just prospecting, not really THing and it had a target every foot or so and it is a mile long!? I couldn't dig everything on that beach in my lifetime!? Now if it's a relatively small area and I have done my research as to what was there before, and have a good idea that there is treasure to be had, I will dig everything if it kills me!? I think it's killing me but what a way to go!? Now if I can teach my new dog to sniff out treasure and dig without stealing my coins and running off I will definately dig everything.....or we will. I may have me a cache hound.? Someone commented the other day what a smart little dog that is and I said no, dumb dog, smart trainer! Monty

Hey, you could always plant one on a beach north of Chicago???

Another lesson to learn. If you are trying to hide some mad money for a "Rainy Day", burry it in a Pringles Can. People will leave it alone.

It's possible that the detectorist that found it was just being conscientious and didn't want to dig a big enough hole to remove a large item. Of course if they had known it was a cache I'm sure they would have dug it. I think most of us would be more likely to dig a large item near an old house/foundation than at a park or school.

Ctalmadg,

Your cache is genuine treasure & worth more than the one Onion Rings burried. Thanks for the post! I would be quite proud of a find like that one if it were me that found it.
