Here is the deal. I just found out today that next Sunday I have all access permission to hunt a place around here with 140 years of history and few metal detectorists have had the oppurtunity to detect. I use a White's Prizm II with a 9" coil, but I want to get the most depth possible so do I update to a 12" coil or do I use the 9" coil.. Cause either way I will use absolutely no discrimination.. So maybe you Treasure Netters can give me your opinon.. :)

the coil size will not matter with depth you will have to explore the options of what coils will fit your prizm II and find out witch one provides more depth and puts down a better frequency for maximum performance. i dont know what coils fit the prizm or i would tell you your best option...

good luck and take it easy, Lance

Krimic, I would start with the 9" coil, see what kind of targets you are getting and at what depth. This will also remove some of the trash, then I would go to the 12" coil for the deeper goodies. Best of Luck & Keep us Posted. trk5capt...

Regardless of the coil you use, scan slowly this will give a better chance on the deeper stuff. Good luck.

I have found that a larger coil will tend to give you the ability to go deeper, but sometimes bigger is not always better.
Depends on the amount of trash.

I have a Prizm III and I didn't know that there was a 12" coil made for the Prizm series. I thought that there was only the 8", 9", and the Bigfoot coil. Is the 12" made by a company other than White's? If it's really trashy I would use the smallest coil first then go back over it with the larger coil to see if you missed any deepies. If there isn't a lot of trash then I would just start with the larger coil. Just my opinion. Good Luck!!\\

Hey bud just wanted to wish you good luck and I found Jimmy's plate.....................................................It was under Johann's pillow. LOL!

Thanks all for your input on my question.. Don't worry if I find what I know this site is capable of producing I'll be more than happy to post it.. As far as junk my father in law has had the extreme privelege of hunting this site once and told me that he did not dig a single pulltab his whole time there.. So we'll see how trashed this site really is..

Yes they do make a 12" coil that will fit the Prizm series but it is not manufactured by Whites.. Where I purchased my metal detector which is a coin shop they informed me that I could upgrade to the 12" but I never showed anymore interest.. Now I am reconsidering for this particular outing.. I can find out the info and send it to you if you want it, since your a fellow Prizm user..

Yes, I would like for you to send me the info on the 12" coil please. I have searched and searched and haven't been able to find it, but it would be a coil that I may consider buying. Thx ahead of time!

If you have the time and want to get all the "goodies" go over the area with both coils. The larger coil will definitely get the deeper and larger finds and the smaller coil will be more sensitive to those shallower small treasures. Those three cent nickles are really small and hard to detect at any depth over one to two inches and your area sounds like a likely place to have some of these present.
Good luck.....Jerry
