Dug this guy up this evening while out MD.Not sure who and what this was?it almost looks loke it would be mounted to a stein handle, portion at the top.But it seems way to heavy for that.Yeah I know I took the nose off this poor guy.Ground is awful hard here in ky right now.Any ideas?
Thanks for looking HB

Neat find! I agree with Gypsy & CodyCat. Kinda looks like Fossis's avatar.

Here is a shot from the back side.A door knocker is a good guess to me.Everyone else agrees so I would say they are probably right.Something tells me it's something else though. Not sure why.Any more ideas?

LOL, as soon as I saw the first photo, I thought of Neptune. Great minds, huh? Wouldn't a doorknocker be solid? The old guy appears to be hollow. Whatever it is, an electrolysis bath would probably clean him up well and give more detail to his face. He's a keeper, that's for sure. Congrats!

I was thinking Zeus, but Neptune also fits.

It looks like lead to me. Never seen a lead door knocker?

I think decor to a side of a large plant pot or water feature (being the water God).

It is lead.

I was begining to think that it could be a stein handle and I am not going to rule that out yet as the hinge mechanism is very similiar to the older steins....then I found this glib under german steins....
"European pewter has a minimum tin content of 92%. Copper and antimony are added to harden the metal. The higher the tin content, the more silver the final color. A common misconception is that all pewter products contain lead. Although used in the past, lead virtually is never used to create pewter steins.....

I thought of a stein handle when I first looked at it.It looks like lead would look if it had been hit with a shovel. All I know is it's heavy to the hold.Seems like it would be to heavy for a stein as well. ;D I dunno. You go Gypsy,I'm with you on the pewter, it very well could be.I thought it was lead.
