I just called the 800 number for one of my dump banks. I asked if any branch has a coin counter. The operator called around and said the main branch about 7 miles away has one.
She also added that the bank teller she spoke with, at that branch, said if I brought in any coins that they MUST ALL BE CLEAN! because dirty coins break the counter.
I was not calling because I wanted to dump coins. My local branches (2) of this bank want me to bring my rejects in to them loose in bags. I want to see if I can buy the bags when they are full. Now I need to track down a local number for them. They only have that one 800 number for every branch in the country.
AFTER LUNCH UPDATE
Well I tracked down the local number and called and the head teller answered.
The counter is still broken and they are waiting on a repairman. The reason it is broken is that many quarters are being put in the susan anthony $1 bag and being counted as $1
We got to talking and she said she collects coins too. But she wanted to know if 1964 was the last date silver was issued. Of course I said yes. Then I told her I also buy old silver coins and that I pay 6-7 times face value in cash. She became very interested. We will talk later because she said she had a lot of coins.
She will also sell me all the half dollar and penny bags this saturday. So far one of each, but the half $$ bag is $360.
