Is this a solid piece of iron, or are there hole(s) in it? Thanks for including the ruler in the photo, sure helps with the scale. ;)

Solid Iron, pretty heavy, no holes, no flatten areas. the straight end is rounded about the diameter of a sharpie marker.

thats what happens when your raised in a house built in 1792, it still has latches like this. This one looks very old maybe 1830s or older, nice find!

It does in fact look like a door handle, my only hesitation is.....is that the number 1 stamped in the middle? blends in with pocks and divets but def. looks like it, if so this would be right on the side of the handle, a wierd place for the stamp which would lead me to possibly searching for another conclusion maybe.
