Got out to a few sites at the beginning of january before the weather turned so nasty, The first pic is mostly from an old church that is closed down and has a big 'for lease' sign in the front, been checking it out for awhile finally asked the neighbors about it they said they didnt see any problem so I hunted it for bout' an hour and a half. Found quite a bit of automotive junk including a P that I think hung on an old Pinto, remember them? Also these half round pieces of copper tubing not sure what they were for along with an old looking buckle and of course pulltabs and clad
Next couple of pics are from this old football field near my home that I have hunted on and off for about 6 months. The field dates to the turn of the century, but has a lot of iron from whatever they used to use on the track as well as a ton of screwcaps and pulltabs. Short of clad I had never made any good finds there but because of the age Im always drawn back. Well I got there right about dark it was 38 degrees and a light drizzle, perfect. Finally dug a ring out of this place thought it was gold,it is a family tree ring of some sort with 4 or 5 different birthstones but is stamped brass on the inside still a cute little ring. Finally pulled some silver out as well 2 different silver rosies a couple of feet apart along with a bell and on my way back to the truck still swinging I dug up a religous medalion that Im sure is silver, you can tell it was poured in a mold with the side that has writing nice and smooth while the other side has bubbles in it. Went back the next afternoon and dug another ring a big fat one that is gold plated appears to have a baseball player or something on it.
The next pic is from an old block that I have permission to hunt, several early homes along with a a small storefront all a block away from an old school. Havent dug anthing old outside of a couple of wheats there yet but the targets are simply endless and I skip around alot so as not to destroy the yards. Found a couple of hotwheels, part of a watch, a key,all the usual suspects, then dug up my third ring in 4 days again not gold. Also a few finds from a short hunt at the football field including 2 dimes that were a foot apart and came out of the ground shiny like silver. Couldnt believe when I got home and the dates on them were 65 and 66 and they look just like silver, also some sort of goth choker stud necklace in the pic with the ring.
The next pics are from a site my sister told me about. Its an old motel that is all closed down and boarded up. When I got there some guy in a pickup pulled up and I told him of my intentions,he said I was fine he was just keeping an eye on the place because vagrants like to stay there if given the chance. As you can see a snow shovel was in order,I was able to clear off the snow around some bushes next to the sidewalk and then do some detecting, really a lot of coins to be had there oldest being a 1965 quarter, was really trying to dig every signal,Im sure there must be jewlery there I know when I leave a hotel we are usually in a pretty big hurry and there is usually quite a bit of chaos involved in getting all your stuff together and into the vehicle, perfect opportunity to lose a ring or other items of interest
the fina pic is Mr.Stewart wondering if he can come up on the bed and take up all the room and kick my laptop onto the floor if I dont pay attention, well of course he can, cant he?
Welp all the hunting is on a short delay here til the ground softens back up,been racking my brain trying to think of somewhere to detect that is out of the weather. Ive been contemplating using the torch I use to put down rubberoid roofing to heat up spots where I have good hits. Someone posted about this elsewhere, the torch idea. Ive used a torch for around 20 years and I think the idea would work the drawbacks are you would have to hunt within 100 feet of the tank(a grill size propane tank) because that is the length of hose I have on mine, and you would have to be careful about setting grass and brush on fire. If you have a pretty good torch you can control the size/shape of the flame to a point. I dont think you would have much luck with a little plumbers torch though I may be wrong. The only other winter hunting I can think of is where we get together with the guys who race the motocross and monster trucks in the domes in the winter. They have a lot of nice fresh dirt in the middle of winter. I think at each setup we could have an area where we dump 'our dirt' we charge people to come in during the day and hunt,we can seed coins at each venue and then scoop up the dirt and take it with us to the next arena. There would always be new stuff to find as well as the stuff that wasnt found at the previous areas,or no I think I sould be posting in the cabin fever rant thread, sorry for keeping you and thanks for looking...Shoot
