Now that most of the Game Strips have been planted & gridded by us, we fell back to our last 2 ploughed field options.
This farmer does what none of our others do & that's leaves 40-50% of his land crop free. The 2 field options we have (1 other is not to be disturbed because of bird nesting) are a little choppy but are workable.
We started gridding on the circa 12 acre (smaller) field by the Village which is ploughed out ridge & furrow. We were not doing that well & Cru'dad got itchy with wanting to try the next field. At first I wasn't happy, I wanted to stick to the gridding until it came good, but I hatched a theory & joined him. I looked at the lay of the land & guessed there may have been an old route to the nearby Church, whether I'm right or not doesn't matter because I fluked out a hammered. Cru'Dad quickly found a Fibula piece, so we up stumps (or in our case flags) & moved fields.
3.5 Hour Hunt;

1 Scrappy
Fibula Catchplate
18th C Pewter Rose Button
Tudor Book Clasp
14th C Medieval Buckle & Plate - Also on the 'Route to the Church'

1547-51 Posthumous Groat of Henry 8, Canterbury Mint - Henry 8 is a Rare Hammered find for us, shame its lightly struck & worn. But can't have it all. (debased)

:occasion14: I need a beer after every one of your posts . Im not worthy :notworthy: Congrats

Some good finds. Cru'dad was right!! speaking to several of our local farmers today. The good news is that due to the difficulty of eradicating blackgrass in the winter sown wheat, there will soon be vast acres of sprayed off overwintered stubble and ploughed and pressed fields now going for spring planting. This will extend the detecting season and take pressure off the permissions all being available in Late summer early autumn.

Old Coppernose coinage! Very nice.

Also great fibula and buckle. I'm glad to hear of that field being left partially unplanted. Most excellent!

Great day! I like the fishing sinker most. Pays off living close to the beach! :icon_thumleft:

Your finds are always educational and inspirational.

That all sound good news for us. However, this guy has always done it, due to mostly labour issues. He used to do the farming himself but I think his Son helps quite a bit now as well.

Its the land close to the Roman Road you indicated on Google Earth, close to the farm shop/butchers on the T junction.:thumbsup:

Wow, that's a awesome old silver! I'd be stoked with a find so beautiful. Keep up the great finds:thumbsup:

Awesome finds, as usual! Congrats!
