This rock caught my eye the other day. I picked it out of the water at Lake Michigan here in SE Wisconsin. It caught my eye due to its purpleish color in the sunlight as well as coppery-red bright reflections that turn out to be hematite just under the surface of clear quartzite. kinda interesting. I suppose if this were feldspar it might be considered a sunstone, or if a chalcedony it might be fire agate, same type of effect here. Anyway its always fun finding interesting and unusual rocks at the lake.
The hematite is distributed throughout the rock in black and red patches with certain areas that reflect the light in a copper color.
