I have recently had the pleasure (or not) of emptying an old house full of "stuff" The previous owners were supposedly antique dealers and left so much stuff behind. I came across this picture? and because it felt plasticy (resin?) and looked kinda cheap, I just sat it aside an moved onto other things. On closer inspection, it's quite unique and by looking at the back, it looks older. It measures 9" wide and 7" top to bottom. It is like 3D. The actual frame is metal and a little rusty. When I tap on the back it sounds hollow. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Crikkitx, I don't know anything about it,but I like it! Great condition, and just a very heartwarming picture. I'd find a place to display that in my home. Welcome to this forum, and thank you for sharing your find with us!

Could the 3D picture be copper?

Welcome to the forum. Your picture is very nice - quite appealing. I can only speculate, but I'm guessing this was either part of a series of similar reliefs or possibly some type of advertising piece. It should be fairly easy to find something about it since it has a title - google it! Good luck.

PS, do you know to take out all kitchen and bathroom drawers and turn them over in case money is taped to the underside of them? How about looking inside lamp bases? I'm talking caches, and in your situation you might be lucky enough to find one. Antique dealers usually liked to keep some cash on hand so they could buy something on the spur of the moment if someone came to them with something to sell after the bank was closed for the day. I truly hope you will look everywhere for a hidden cache or a lost coin, etc. HAVE FUN and GOOD LUCK!

Hah! Great idea! Right now I am still trying to weed through it all. I did try using google, but not having any luck. The basement and garage are full of junk.. yes.. JUNK! I am trying to be careful not to get rid of anything that might have value, but I don't know a lot about antiques. I would assume that anything with real value has been taken, but who knows?
Thanks for the response. :)

Don't overlook ephemera (that's stuff that was only intended to be used once and then thrown away - usually made of paper - like a bookmark, a brochure, a wanted poster, a movie poster, etc.) because ephmera is often considered trash by non-antique dealers but can actually bring in big bucks.

Remember: one wo/man's junk is another wo/man's treasure!!!!

When I was stationed in Germany in the late 60's, I purchased a relief that is made of wax. I don't know if wax hardens over time....just a thought.

Yay! I think I finally found it. It is "ivorx" by someone named Osborne.

Thats ivorex...

"Collectibles:Decorative Arts:Osborne Ivorex Placque
Ivorex placques were made by Arthur Osborne in England in the early 1900's. He called the material he used "sterine wax." The scenes were in relief, this one is called "The Old Folks at Home." It is in perfect condition, no chips or damage." - Worth $35.00 at this site: http://www.rubylane.com/shops/japanois/item/0018
