Help with various SEARCH functions

On any given day, I consider myself to be a guy with above average intelligence. However, that is all out the window when I come the this forum and try to do a search function.

Example: I wanted to find EVERY thread about the Whites XLT. The basic search was not helpful, so I went to the Advanced Search. I don't understand the search types and other options. I put in "XLT" and got this result: The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search:
XLT

Hmm... So I went to the section for Brands-Whites figuring it would just search that area. Same result.
So, can someone do two things please: 1) Tell me the correct way to do the search I am trying to do, and 2) Point me to a sticky (if there is one) about helpful ways to use the search functions.

I am a guy who hates to ask a question that has been asked over, and over again. So I want to search first, but having a hard time with it.

Sorry search function seems to be very poor, or broke.

I have all but given up on its use here.

If I Want to search something from our past I use google.

although there are probably thousands of posts that say XLT

example google search: XLT treasurenet

however more words added may help narrow it down

I was going to ask a similar question about the search but I see its already been answered. The old TN we could search individual forums seperately but I cant figure how to do it. I want to search Todays Finds for dowsing.

I agree the search is very poor and I cant use it. I am forced to use google to search TN. I type in treasurenet.com and my search words but I am still unable to search a certain forum.

I am learning the advanced search here at TN. It has many options in a scroll down menu. I think it may actually work, its just not user freindly.

your only using 3 letters, that is the biggest problem the shorter the key search word the harder it is for it to function...

I found 14 pages of threads by using "whites xlt" on just the whites forum that has the word whites xlt in them.......

To be honest it works quite well if you play with it a little..........
14 pages with whites xlt
18 threads with "whites xlt" in quotes
5 threads that are titled whitles xlt
