My friend found this yesterday. This is the only photo he sent me. I'm not familiar with Civil War relics and needed help. Thanks! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1431788621.627831.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1431790081.700687.jpg

Looks like a bridle rosette, could be off a Cavalry horse, or work harness.
Photos show the location of a rosette on the headstall.

I have always been told that, with the iron on the back, those came just after the civil war. The civil war era one had the lead filled back...

This site called this rosette early 1900s.

Maybe it's the Attachment Style that makes yours Date to that time period???

I have dug a couple Iron Back Rosette's in a Calvary Camp I found 'late War', they had very Thin Brass Fronts that were 70% Gone one looked like a Bulls-eye Front & the other I could see to tips of a Star . Def , a U.S. A-lot of Horse Gear, Mostly Iron, & Saddle Pieces & lots of Dropped 52 cal cone based Sharps , Burnside's, & Spencer Carbine Bullets .

IMO I may be wrong but the US on the op's post looks post war "Maybe"..."Maybe".
Davers

Does yours have a US on the Front?
