Hi guys, i'm italian and my dad gave me this bild as a gift befor he past the way.
in this pic i can recognize the original Farewell No 9 of General Lee, wondering if that is him original sword, can u help me with it?

Robert E Lee was a Confederate(southern)General.The US cast in your sword indicates a Union(northern) weapon.

The union army occupied New Orleans during the final stages of the war.Maybe if you posted a clear copy of the letter and pictures of any markings on the sword we could help you identify it.Look for any writing at the top of the blade and post a clearer picture of the guard.DBULL

clearly English is not a primary language...

guy was born 21 December 1931...somehow acquired a northern infantry weapon...
the art work is fabulous...is it signed?

why is the artwork associated with the sword? and I can not read the document...is there a translation or a decent copy to be read?

It looks like a copy of Lee's farewell address,order #9,of which several copies were distributed among officers.The artwork looks to be fairly recent.I don't understand the relationship other than it is a collage of some sort.Lee's troops did surrender their arms at this time,but I doubt that Lee's saber would have been surrendered.Whether the sword or document are Authenic would require much closer inspection.

thx u all for ur reply.
I decided to put the frame in a Caveau in Zurich ( swiss) were i do live couse i did need time to think what to do with it.
I will able to open the Caveau in May and i will make clear an detailed pics of remarks and everything that comes with the blade.

The paper says clearly that order number 9 signed by General E.Lee.
my Grand parent told me once the story of that frame, if im not wrong (35 years ago) the one in the photo could be the sister of Wesley Duke Lee connected with an ombelical Cord till the sabre Lee's parent.
Maybe i'm wrong about who is the person in the pic, could be another parent of Wesley Duke Lee( father's name William Bowman Lee).
what i'm sure is that my grand pa bought it in San Paulo 1970.
