:D Groove, It's older than you think! These TOKENS were made from 1820 or 1830 to 1860's (depends on source) They were initially used on Prince Edward Island, Canada to alleviate a severe coin shortage. There are many varieties, so a value is hard to estimate. Don't throw, give, or sell it away. There seems to be a Reference Book of 16 pgs by somebody named Lee that shows all.

Sorry, I couldn't do better!

Joe

Wow.. no kidding! Thanks Joe! I may have to do more research on this one. Unfortunately, the coin has slight damage though, so i'm sure that it isn't worth that much. It seems to be ever so slightly bent. Darnit... either way... I would NEVER have guessed it being that old.

I wonder... since it's in such great shape, is it a repo?? Hmmm... Anyone else know about this one?

Definitely a keeper.

Okay.. Update.... what I have found so far is that it is a British Made version of the coin. These were done in the USA as well, but the difference is the flag flying on the boat. When America did it, there was an American Flag flying in the rear, when done in Britain, the Union Jack was flying. Mine has a Union Jack.

Problem is, I can't find anything more on the web on how to identify the TYPE or DATE for this darn thing. One thing that scares me is that it is also said that this coin was highly reproduced.... Ugh oh batman.

Anyone have a hidden web site I can use for reference?? Suggest a book?

Thanks

The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Colonial Tokens
(Charlton Press; W. K. Cross, Publisher)

If it's a reproduction, a simple taste test would tell. Teasin

Very cool find!! I don't have a clue (obviously) about it. But it kind of looks to be bronze rather than copper. I've dug bank tokens made of bronze, that shows much the same patina or coloring of your token. WTG!! HH
