This was gifted to me by a good friend. I was told it was found in the Holston River (TVA area, Bristol, TN).

These photos don’t really do justice to it.. the color is a mid to deep caramel color..

Can anyone give an idea of how old it is or what it is made of?

Thanks for looking!

Was thinking cobbs too, looking for a bevel… which if I’m not mistaken is a defining characteristic for cobbs, not sure if I’m seeing a bevel or just a fairly steep curve, if that makes sense.

Thanks for the help… I did go and look up info on the Cobbs.. looks very similar. I’m not sure about a bevel or where it might be.

The black markings look like old stains from the river (?)

Were these hafted or hand held?

How old do you think it might be?

Here’s another photo… the knife has a slight curve to it or more like a twist.

I think I do see beveling on the left side and more finely worked on the right side.

My guess is: Knife? Yes. Beveled? No, just knapped. Material? Chert. Hasped? Yes. But like a biscuit in woodworking. Sliding in from the side, and not bound at its base. Name? Who cares?

NICE knife! Congrats-- and yes. The black marks are most likely from the river. Aaaand, as knives wear, they're re-sharpened, so it's not illogical that there'd be a slight bend to it. The rounded side was attached, and the flat side is the re-sharpened side.
Just my guess.

They were hand held knives, and if it was in creek, stream or river they can be really stained, and age covers a long period, usually considered anywhere between 5000-8000 years old

Thanks, I thought the black marks might be from river staining.
