hello i am looking for a little help finding a map 1820 or older would like 1700s 18th century but i can not seem to find anything out, houlton maine was founded in 1807 witch means there were people living there way before this. it was part of Massachusetts back then i tried the county and everything else but there is a huge gap in history, i am also trying to find out when the RR went away, there was a train station right in town its on the map but never any dates when it was gone. no history at all on this. any help would be great. i love to read so if u have links send them ill check them out.

I've been to Houlton..used to cross the border there when on my way to Halifax, usually with a load of produce.

It's a cool area..hope you're able to find some of the old maps.

Did a little looking for you (waiting for the Super Bowl to start) and came up with a couple that might be helpful. Check out the old schoolhouse site on that first map. :occasion14:

Houlton was just inside the US when the border was set between the US and the British territory which later became Canada. There were border incidents that might have involved Houlton around the time of the War of 1812. Some historical sleuthing might reveal something about what was there.

The NB&C started service to Houlton on November 9, 1870, more than 20 years before the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad started service to Houlton.
The Bangor and Aroostook Railroad ceased operations of passenger cars by the early 1960s.
